Probably stating the obvious here, but fairy tale and fairy costumes aren’t nearly as popular with those of the male persuasion as they are with the ladies! Still, many of these men’s costumes can be used for a great couples theme or make to a unique impression on their own (like the outrageous Tooth Fairy costume for men).
Here are a few male fairy tale character outfits that managed to make their way into the list of top selling Halloween costumes:
Hansel
The hunky German lad, all grown up. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, when their father took them into the woods to abandon them for the second time Hansel brought along some bread crumbs (which were subsequently eaten by birds – d’oh!) to mark the way. Actually, if these two kids fell for the “lets go for a walk in the woods” trick a second time, neither one of them was too bright, but they DO make a very a cute couple!
The Mad Hatter
The eccentric dude from Alice in Wonderland with the big top hat who thinks that any time is time for a good tea party, Hatter is always getting himself into trouble with some member of the royal Hearts family. A dark version of the mad hatter is a villain in the Batman comic series – to date, he has never appeared in a Batman film.
Prince Charming
Handsome, rich and powerful, Prince Charming always gets the girl! Sure, he dresses a little on the formal side, but what more could a guy ask for?
Tweedledee and Tweedledum
BFF’s? Brothers? Partners? “Contrariwise!” The propeller-headed duo are a great couples’ costume for any pair who are like 2 peas in a pod (though if you want to be authentic you need to be able to recite the “The Walrus and the Carpenter”)
Like the Mad Hatter, Tweedledee and Tweedledum also have modern counterparts who are villains in the Batman comic series.
Robin Hood
He steals from the rich, he gives to the poor – no, it’s not a politician, it’s Robin Hood, the yeoman leader of a big band of outlaws (but nice ones) in medieval England. Don’t be fooled by those spandex tights, this bow-wielding denizen of Sherwood Forest is a real man!
Other popular men’s costumes with fairy tale themes include the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz (if he only had a brain!), the gingerbread man from Shrek, Disney’s prince Aladdin, and oddly enough, another man in tights – Peter Pan!
