The Story of Cinderella

Cinderella and the Prince

The Cinderella story is a folk tale, variations of which have been told around the world for centuries. In Ancient Greece, Cinderella was Rhodopis - an Egyptian servant. In China in 860 AD she was called Ye Xian. And in the 19th century, she was Aschenputtel in the version of the story by the Brothers Grimm. But it was Charles Perrault in 1697 who gave the story some of the key elements we recognize today - the pumpkin, the fairy godmother, and the glass slipper

There have been numerous stage and screen adaptations of the Cinderella story, one of the best known being the 1950 Disney animated feature film, from which many of these costumes are derived.
